DUKE POWER CUSTOMERS SET RECORD FOR ELECTRICITY USE

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 28 /PRNewswire/ -- Duke Power (NYSE: DUK) customers have set a record for electricity use, reaching an all-time peak of 15,587 magawatts for the hour ending at 5 p.m.
 The previous Duke Power record of 15,293 megawatts was set on July 14.
 "As the extreme heat remains in the Piedmont Carolinas, the need for electricity has increased," said William Sands, manager of energy control. "Throughout the heat wave, Duke Power has been able to meet customers' demand."
