DUKE POWER CUSTOMERS SET RECORD FOR ELECTRICITY USE

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 29 /PRNewswire/ -- For the fifth time during the month of July, Duke Power (NYSE: DUK) customers have set a record for electricity use -- reaching an all-time peak of 15,720 megawatts for the hour ending at 4 p.m.
 The previous Duke Power record of 15,587 megawatts was set on July 28. Past Duke Power peaks were established on July 12, 13 and 14.
 "The record book seems to get re-written every day," said William Sands, manager of energy control. "However, throughout the heat wave, Duke Power has been able to meet customers' demand."
