DUKE POWER CO. TO REDEEM BONDS

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., Feb. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Duke Power Co. (NYSE: DUK) said today that on March 25, the company will redeem its 9 percent Series of first and refunding mortgage bonds, due May 2016, with a face value of $175 million.
 Bondholders will receive $1,053.20 per $1,000 certificate, plus accrued interest to that date. The call notice for the issue was mailed to bondholders Feb. 23 by Morgan Guaranty Trust Co., the redemption agent.
 Duke will use the proceeds from $200 million of 30-year bonds, priced Feb. 19, to refund the bonds called.
