DUKE POWER CO. MEETS ALL-TIME RECORD DEMAND

 CHARLOTTE, N.C., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- For the second consecutive day, Duke Power's (NYSE: DUK) customers set a new record for electricity consumption, reaching an all-time peak of 15,136 megawatts at 5 p.m.
 The previous Duke peak -- 15,103 megawatts -- was set Monday.
 "The past two months have been among the hottest periods in the history of the Piedmont Carolinas," William Sands, manager of energy control, said.
 "Despite the hot temperatures, we continue to meet our customers' needs for electricity through the efficient use of our nuclear, fossil and hydroelectric generation facilities."
