DUFF & PHELPS: CIGNA CORPORATION SENIOR DEBT RATING OF 'A+' PLACED ON RATING WATCH--NEGATIVE

CHICAGO, Aug. 26 /PRNewswire/ -- Duff & Phelps Credit Rating Co. has placed the "A+" (Single-A-Plus) senior debt rating of CIGNA Corp. on the Rating Watch with negative implications. This action is in response to continued poor operating results of CIGNA's property-casualty division.
CIGNA is one of the largest multi-line insurance holding companies in the U.S. with $80.1 billion in assets and $5.8 billion in shareholders' equity at June 30, 1993. The "AAA" claims paying ability rating of Connecticut General Life Insurance Co., CIGNA's primary life insurance subsidiary, is not affected by this action.
