DU PONT PROVIDES FUNDING FOR CATALYTIC EXTRACTION PROCESSING
CAMBRIDGE, Mass., Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Du Pont has provided Molten Metal Technology, Inc. (MMT) of Cambridge partial funding for a pilot demonstration project for MMT's new waste processing and materials recovery process called Catalytic Extraction Processing (CEP). Du Pont and MMT will use the pilot plant to evaluate several projects which are underway between the two firms.
Du Pont is contributing $1.5 million to the pilot plant project and will separately fund the design phase. MMT intends to use the facility for all prospective customers, including Du Pont. It is anticipated that the pilot facility will be operational by mid-1992.
CEP is a pollution prevention, waste minimization, and materials recovery process that makes products from wastes. Du Pont believes that CEP is potentially superior to high temperature incineration because CEP recovers resources, while producing no undesirable byproducts such as dioxins, furans, nitrogen oxides or sulfur oxides. Du Pont and MMT expect CEP to be adopted rapidly by generators and processors worldwide.
The pilot plant facility will be capable of processing a variety of feedstocks, including raw materials, semi-finished materials, and wastes. The facility will include analytical capabilities for determining exact compositions of gas, metallic and ceramic product streams. MMT has contracts for approximately a dozen paid development programs from Du Pont and other customers worldwide for the pilot facility.
