DU PONT MATERIALS PLAY KEY ROLES ON CHRYSLER LH
The 1993 Chrysler LH models, unveiled today (Wednesday, Jan. 8) at

the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, feature two key contributions from Du Pont:
-- The automaker's first use of thermoplastic for a major, vertical exterior body panel. The fenders of a recyclable Du Pont composite save seven pounds per vehicle and as much as 80 percent in tooling costs compared to steel stampings, while allowing for three unique fender designs for each LH model. These designs contribute to the platform's "cab forward" styling.
Du Pont has worked with Chrysler since the mid-1980s to develop a systems solution to thermoplastic body panels, investing more than $10 million in the program.
-- One of the largest (15-square-foot) and most dramatically curved and angled windshields of any passenger car line. An integral part of the LH's cab-forward design, the windshield is formed through Guardian Industries' proprietary press bending process that provides maximum top- to-bottom and side-to-side curvature without optical distortion. For optimum performance, the windshield uses Du Pont "Butacite" PVB sheeting as a safety interlayer.
