DU PONT ISSUES STATEMENT
WILMINGTON, Del., Sept. 30 /PRNewswire/ -- In response to today's announcement in Brussels by the European Commission on the approval of the Du Pont-ICI agreement, Du Pont (NYSE: DD) issued the following statement:
"We are very pleased that the European Commission has approved the sale of ICI's nylon business to Du Pont," said Edgar S. Woolard, Jr., Du Pont Chairman and CEO. "We appreciate the hard work that went into the review process, and we thank those involved for a timely decision.
"We have acknowledged the concerns expressed in the carpet fibers area, and Du Pont agreed to changes requested by the E.C.," said Woolard. "We believe we can now undertake a process to be responsive to those concerns, but do so in a way that benefits Du Pont and carpet fiber customers throughout Europe."
The next milestone is for the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to finish its review process. Du Pont and ICI are optimistic that the FTC will approve the agreement.
In the meantime both companies are continuing the "due diligence" examination of each other's businesses and believe the final agreement will be completed in the first quarter of 1993.
