DU PONT HONORS DR. MARTIN LUTHER KING JR.
WILMINGTON, Del., Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- "A Day of Celebration"

commemorating the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was held today for Du Pont (NYSE: DD) employees in the company's Playhouse Theatre. The second annual event was telecast live to five other Du Pont locations, including downtown Wilmington, Louviers and the Du Pont Country Club.
Sponsored by Du Pont's Regional U.S. Valuing People Team, the program featured a keynote address by Dr. Therman E. Evans, vice president and corporate medical director of CIGNA Corporation, musical presentations by St. Paul's Baptist Church Men's Choral of West Chester, Pa., and the Du Pont Diversity Choir, composed of about 120 employees.
Du Pont Chairman Edgar S. Woolard said, "Today we are taking time to stop and reflect on Dr. King's courage and his unwavering belief in a world that values all people -- a day to celebrate our differences, our similarities, our desires and our hope in a bright future together."
A diverse team of 40 employees, chaired by Sandra M. Bowe, research chemist in Du Pont Medical Products, produced the celebration. "The event reflects the company's value for cultural diversity and its commitment to creating a great global company through people," Bowe said.
An Educational Convocation in connection with the celebration also was held last night at Howard Career Center. The program included a keynote address by William H. Gray III, president and chief executive officer of the United Negro College Fund, an awards ceremony honoring local high school students who were winners of an essay contest on "Valuing Diversity," and the Christina Cultural Arts Youth Chorale.
