DSG establishes diaper ventures.

The Hong Kong-based Disposable Soft Goods International (DSG) recently entered into two joint ventures in an effort to increase its diaper manufacturing presence in Europe and the Far East. In Europe, DSG has signed a letter of intent to create a joint venture with Weisbrod Zurrer to operate its Loring division near Zurich, Switzerland. With sales of $21 million last year, Loring has manufactured disposable diapers and sanitary napkins in Switzerland since the 1950's. DSG will own 51% of the venture, which will be called the Loring Company. This venture brings DSG into the sanitary pad market for the first time.

The company has also signed a contract with the Economic Development Company of Zohng Shan City, China, to build a joint venture diaper plant in Zohng Shan. The plant, in southern China 65 miles from Hong Kong, will require $3 million for construction and capitalization costs. DSG is putting up 80% of the financing, with the Economic Development Company funding the remainder. Initially the site will house one diaper line. Previously, DSG had supplied the Chinese market from a plant in Hong Kong.
