DRUG COPS SWOOP ON STING'S VIP POP PARTY; Albert Hall heroin riddle.
A deadly pounds 6,000 stash including heroin and cocaine was found at the end of a backstage party thrown for showbiz guests at London's Albert Hall.
The millionaire star did not go to the bash himself and left pals enjoying themselves as he prepared for the next gig on his sell-out world tour. Security staff found the drugs early next day in a bag abandoned on a chair in the room where the party had been held.
A source said: "The person who looked inside the bag was stunned to find nine bags of powder, a bar of cannabis and several bags of skunk, a mind-bending blend of cannabis. There were also a few spoons, some documents and credit cards."
Around 40 celebrity pals were at the party and pregnant star Madonna was a guest at a previous bash a few days earlier.
Sting was flying out to Frankfurt for the next leg of his tour yesterday and was unavailable to comment.
But his publicist Andy Prevezer said: "Sting was shocked and distressed to hear about the discovery. It is a horrific revelation. Sting was not at the party. He left as soon he came off stage." In an interview before the start of his 10-day sell-out gigs at the Albert Hall Sting told a journalist: "My lifestyle doesn't tie in with being elegantly wasted."
Police say they may need to quiz guests who attended the party and detectives have already spoken to concert promoter Harvey Goldsmith.
He has provided them with a full guest list for the tickets-only party and is said to be keen to "clear up" who brought the drugs.
A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "The CID at Belgravia are investigating the discovery of a bag of what is believed to be drugs.
"It was found at the Royal Albert Hall in a backstage function room. We attended and seized the bag for forensic examination.
"Earlier that evening the room had been used to host an after-show party."
The drugs are currently being tested at police labs but are believed to be mixture of amphetamines, cocaine, heroin and cannabis.
Police arrested two men on Friday. The Yard spokesman said: "A man in his 30s was arrested in Maldon in Essex and another man in his 40s was arrested in Central London.
"Both were taken to Belgravia police station and questioned and both have been released on police bail to return for questioning on the May 23."
Sting is one of the world's richest rock stars with an estimated personal fortune of pounds 80 million and owns a series of properties around the world.
