DRS Technologies Receives New Electronic Manufacturing Contracts.
PARSIPPANY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 3, 2003
DRS Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: DRS) announced today that it has been awarded three new contracts with a combined value of approximately $7.5 million.
Work performed for these awards will be accomplished by the company's DRS Laurel Technologies unit in Johnstown, Pennsylvania.
A company spokesperson said DRS's highly regarded reputation for quality manufacturing services and its long-term association with many of its customers are supported by DRS's total commitment to provide "best value" production, test and integration services for a diverse array of key military and industrial applications.
AN/SPS-48E Radar System Cabinets
The first award was a new $3.2 million contract from ITT Gilfillan, a unit of ITT Industries, Inc. (NYSE: ITT) and a significant supplier of military air traffic and air search radar systems, located in Van Nuys, California. For this award, DRS will manufacture and integrate cables, wire harnesses, cooling systems and metal cabinets for the modulator, converters, and amplifier and driver subsystems supporting the AN/SPS-48E Radar System.
The SPS-48E Radar System is currently in U.S. Navy inventory as a primary, large-ship, three-dimensional volume search and track radar system. The ships sets produced by DRS will be used for the land-based application of an international customer. Product deliveries are expected to continue through April 2004.
The SPS-48E is one of the U.S. Navy's primary three-dimensional, long-range air surveillance and tracking radars used for detecting and tracking aircraft and cruise missiles. The radar is designed to operate in extremely challenging threat environments and provides high quality tracking information to support engagement solutions.
AN/USQ-149(V)2 Cluster Snoop System Electronic Assemblies
DRS also received a new $2.7 million contract from EDO Reconnaissance and Surveillance Systems, a unit of EDO Corporation (NYSE: EDO), located in Morgan Hill, California. For this award, DRS will provide turn-key electronic manufacturing services, including circuit assembly, cable and wire harness assembly and all subsystem integration, for the advanced electronics in the AN/USQ-149(V)2 Cluster Snoop electronic warfare system used by the U.S. Navy. Product deliveries are expected to commence in March 2003 and continue through September of the same year. Under previously awarded contracts, DRS completed assemblies of the major components of this system.
The Cluster Snoop system is the next generation ELINT (electronic intelligence) Collection System nearing production and release to the fleet. The product will function as a carry-on signal collection system utilizing state-of-the-art high-speed receivers and advanced pulse processors.
Joint STARS Electronic Manufacturing Services
The third award received by DRS was a $1.6 million contract from the Electronics, Sensors and Systems Sector of Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE: NOC), located in Rolling Meadows, Illinois. For this award, DRS will provide aircraft wire harnesses, cable assemblies and electromechanical assemblies, including junction boxes and panel assemblies, for the U.S. Air Force's E-8C aircraft under the Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (Joint STARS) program.
DRS has supplied wire harnesses for the Joint STARS program since 1992, manufacturing over 1,800 different assemblies in support of the E-8C aircraft. To date, approximately $18.6 million has been released to DRS on this program.
Joint STARS is the premier airborne surveillance system for U.S. and allied forces and provides commanders with a comprehensive picture of real-time battlefield activities.
