DRINKS INDUSTRY: NEW PRESIDENT FOR EUROPEAN CONFEDERATION OF SPIRITS PRODUCERS.
Spaniard Jean-Paul Bouyat has been appointed to take over from Hugh Morison of the UK as President of the European Confederation of Spirits Producers (CEPS) for a period of two years. A chemist by training, Mr Bouyat has been at the helm of the Bardinet company (which in particular makes Negrita rum) for 10 years. In the last four years, he has also been president of Catalonia's union of spirits producers. Stressing that CEPS is "one of the professions which is best represented in the corridors of the European Union", the new President said he was taking over the reins at "an exciting time because the enlargement of the European Union is both a challenge and an unprecedented opportunity for the development of the spirits industry and for the internal organisation of CEPS".
