DR. WALTER J. SALMON ELECTED DIRECTOR OF TELXON CORPORATION

 NEW YORK, Jan. 17 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Walter J. Salmon, Professor of Retailing at Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration and one of the nation's leading retail industry experts, was elected today to the board of directors of Telxon Corporation (NASDAQ: TLXN), a world leader in wireless Portable Tele-Transaction Computer systems for the retail industry.
 "In an era when retailers are looking at portable wireless information technology as a major tool to reengineer their businesses, Professor Salmon's expertise in consumer marketing and retail distribution will add significant depth to the Telxon board," said Robert F. Meyerson, chairman and chief executive officer.
 He further said, "Professor Salmon's input will be extremely important because a large percentage of Telxon's worldwide revenues are derived from major worldwide retail and distribution corporations.  Professor Salmon, who holds the Stanley Roth, Sr. chair at Harvard Graduate School of Business, currently is researching trends and organizational problems in distribution.
 Holder of the Selgo Award for Excellence in Teaching, Salmon is the author and co-author of a number of important papers and articles on trends in retailing, including a major 1991 story in Sloan Management Review which explored ways of restoring credibility to retail pricing.
 Salmon received his BBA from City College of New York and his MBA and DBA from Harvard Business School.
 Dr. Salmon currently serves on the boards of Circuit City Stores, Inc., The Neiman Marcus Group, The Quaker Oats Company, Promus Companies, Inc., Hannaford Bros. Co., and Luby's Cafeterias, Inc. He is also a director and treasurer of Tufts Associated Health Plan.
