DR. FRED L. LUCONI JOINS MICROCOM'S BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 NORWOOD, Mass., Nov. 25 ~PRNewswire~ -- Microcom, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: MNPI) today announced the appointment of Fred L. Luconi to Microcom's board of directors. Dr. Luconi brings to the board more than 20 years of experience as an entrepreneur, a technology consultant and a university professor.
 "Dr. Luconi's appointment to Microcom's board adds expertise in strategic planning and business development," said James M. Dow, Microcom president and chief executive officer. "His many years in the high tech industry are expected to benefit Microcom's future development plans."
 Dr. Luconi has spent more than 22 years founding and managing four corporations in Massachusetts, two years as a professor at MIT, and two years as an independent consultant. As co-founder of Index Systems, Inc. and APEX, Inc., he has been involved in the issues of business re- engineering enabled by information technology. Dr. Luconi's formal education includes a B.S., an M.S., and a Ph.D. from MIT in electrical engineering and computer science.
 Departing from Microcom's board of directors is Dr. Charles Moore, who has served on the board for 10 years.
