 BEDMINSTER, N.J., Jan. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Bernard S. Lee, president of the Institute of Gas Technology (IGT), has been elected to the board of directors of NUI Corporation (NYSE: NUI), the company announced today. The election is effective immediately.
 "Dr. Lee and the IGT are leaders in research and development in the natural gas industry. Dr. Lee's election brings a wealth of expertise and technological experience to the board. The IGT's and Dr. Lee's significant accomplishments in environmental research highlight the tremendous advantages of natural gas as the energy source in the 1990s," said John Kean, president and chief executive officer of NUI Corporation. "All of us on the board look forward to working with Dr. Lee in better serving the needs of our shareholders, employees and customers."
 Lee, 57, is president and chief executive officer of the Chicago- based Institute of Gas Technology. Established in 1941, IGT is an independent, not-for-profit center for energy and environmental research and education.
 Lee is responsible for all IGT operations and is a member of IGT's board of trustees and executive committee. He also serves as chairman and president of GDC, Inc., HYCRUDE Corporation, and Endesto, Inc., all wholly owned subsidiaries of IGT, and as chairman of M-C Power Corporation, a majority-owned IGT subsidiary.
 Lee currently serves as a director of Peerless Mfg. Co. and of Oak Ridge Associated Universities. He also serves on the advisory board of the Center for Applied Energy Research at the University of Kentucky. A chemical engineer by training, Lee joined the IGT staff in 1965, where he headed up programs ranging in scope from basic kinetics to laboratory investigations. Prior to joining IGT, Lee was employed by Arthur D. Little, Inc., where he was involved in process development work. He conducted the research for his doctoral dissertation at Argonne National Laboratory.
 Lee was awarded a bachelor's degree and a doctorate in chemical engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn (now Polytechnic University) in 1956 and 1960, respectively. He is a registered professional engineer in New York and Illinois.
 NUI Corporation, based in Bedminster, is an exempt public utility holding company engaged in the distribution of natural gas to approximately 312,000 customers through its principal operating divisions, Elizabethtown Gas Company in New Jersey and City Gas Company of Florida.
