DR. ASAD M. MADNI NAMED PRESIDENT OF BEI MOTION SYSTEMS COMPANY, A SUBSIDIARY OF BEI ELECTRONICS, INC.

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 23 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Asad M. Madni has been appointed president of BEI Motion Systems Company, it was announced today by Peter G. Paraskos, president and chief executive officer of BEI Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ-NMS: BEII), a San Francisco-based diversified-technology company. Madni was president of the Sensors and Controls Group subsidiary of BEI Electronics.
"In his new role, Dr. Madni will be responsible for the consolidation of BEI's Sensors and Controls units into our larger Motion Systems Company. We expect this integration to improve our overall cost effectiveness and market position, while permitting us to take greater advantage of both product and technology synergies within these businesses," Paraskos said. "Motion Systems has built a strong presence in a wide variety of both commercial and industrial applications for its optical encoders, which should be useful in expanding the long-term development of new applications and markets for our other sensors components and systems, while reducing redundant administrative costs."
Madni replaces Gary D. Wrench, who recently was promoted to corporate senior vice president and chief financial officer of the parent corporation.
"We are fortunate to have Dr. Madni guiding and directing this integration process because he has the skills necessary to assure the orderly transition and long-term strategic growth of these businesses," Paraskos added. Madni is a recognized authority in electronic technology, with numerous U.S. patents for electronic subsystems, systems and instrumentation.
Madni joined BEI Electronics in 1992 from Systron Donner Corporation (a subsidiary of the British company, Thorn EMI), where he was chairman, president and CEO. In 18 years at Systron Donner, his responsibilities included general manager of the Microwave and Instruments divisions, and corporate director of Engineering. Prior to his association with Systron Donner, Madni held various senior-level positions with Pertec Corporation and Abbott Transistors Labs.
He received B.S. and M.S. degrees from UCLA and a Ph.D. from California Coast University, all in engineering. He completed the Engineering Management Program at Caltech, the Executive Institute at Stanford University and the Program for Senior Executives at MIT Sloan School of Management.
BEI Electronics designs, manufactures and markets a wide variety of specialized sensors, motors, control systems and precision components for use in industrial, commercial, medical and military applications.
