DOWNTOWN JULIE BROWN NAMED HOST OF WESTWOOD ONE'S
 'AMERICAN DANCE TRAXX' SERIES
LOS ANGELES, March 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Popular television personality Downtown Julie Brown has been named host of the Westwood One Radio Networks' weekly radio series, "American Dance Traxx," it was announced today by Thom Ferro, executive vice president and general manager, Westood One Radio Networks.
"Julie's the perfect host for 'American Dance Traxx,'" said Ferro. "Over the past several years on MTV, she's helped define the American and international dance club scenes and is highly identifiable with both teens and young adults. We're thrilled to have her as a member of our Westwood One family."
"This is a wonderful opportunity and an exciting challenge for me," said Brown. "The question is, 'What will I be wearing?'"
"American Dance Traxx with Downtown Julie Brown" is a weekly three- hour countdown of America's hottest contemporary dance hits from artists like C+C Music Factory, Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch and Paula Abdul. The show also features special re-mixes, new domestic and imported releases and exclusive interviews.
The radio series is heard by millions of listeners each week on some of the nation's top radio stations, including WQHT-FM in New York City, KPWR-FM in Los Angeles, WBBM-FM in Chicago and WIOQ-FM in Philadelphia. Brown's debut show will air the weekend of Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12.
Julie is perhaps best known as host of "Club MTV." She is also a contributing reporter for the syndicated television show "Inside Edition" and has made numerous guest appearances on talk and interview programs including "The Joan Rivers Show" and "Donahue." Julie has hosted many award shows including cable television's 1990 ACE Awards and the 1992 BAMMIE Awards. She's also hosted televised music specials and concert events.
Now living in New York City, Brown was born in Great Britain of Jamaican and English descent. Her father was a Royal Air Force Officer who moved his wife and seven children to bases in Singapore, India, Cyprus and Wales.
Brown's easy on-camera style was developed in England while she hosted a children's quiz show called "Crackerjack," and served as pop music correspondent for "TV AM," a British morning show.
In 1986, while working as a Video Jockey (VJ) on Britain's "Music Box," Brown's trademark exuberance and enthusiasm were noticed by MTV executives, which led to the development of "Club MTV" in 1987.
