SAN MATEO, Calif., Aug. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Jones News Headlines, expanded financial market data and sports scores and odds are now available in real-time over the FM, cable and satellite networks of Data Broadcasting Corp. (DBC)(NASDAQ: DBCC) through its popular Signal PC- based financial information service.
This release of Signal 4.0, the latest upgrade of its Signal market data service, represents a breakthrough in the use of economical point- to-multipoint transmission technology to reach the consumer market with these broad new categories of news and information, including commentary from market analysts, expert technical advice, buy/sell/hold recommendations and a special daily report on a wide variety of subjects from DBC.
Signal, the nation's most popular and successful PC-based financial information service, provides real-time market data and information to personal computers via satellite, FM transmission and cable TV for active traders and investors. Data Broadcasting Corp., which pioneered the use of point-to-multipoint over-the-air transmission of market data, also provides financial and sports information to hand-held portable receivers.
"This is a major step for Signal and Data Broadcasting Corporation," said John Vieira, DBC's director of Marketing. "Our customers are sophisticated investors, and they need all the real-time information they can get to make intelligent decisions in the fast-moving world of finance. We have been working for some time to be able to develop the technology to bring more of this kind of news and other text to our subscribers in the same cost-effective way we have delivered quotes. Now we can do that."
The new Signal 4.0 also gives customers the chance to set up a customized ticker to watch their own issues in real time, keep up on current treasury bond yields directly from primary bond dealers, track quality money market data -- like prime rate, Fed funds and Eurodollar CD rates -- all with a couple of strokes of the keys.
There is also easy access to the many SignalReports which offer advice and commentary from many market analysts and a real-time sports wire, with dozens of updates on every football, basketball, baseball and hockey game as well as the up-to-the-minute odds on those games, direct from Las Vegas.
The new Signal 4.0 software allows the subscriber to word search throughout the database and quickly retrieve information on specific companies or stories, or to find out how the home team scored all of its runs.
Data Broadcasting Corp. is a leading provider of stock market quote service and other specialized market data vital to more than 20,000 subscribers worldwide. Data Broadcasting's main product lines include QuoTrek and Signal (all used primarily by individual investors) and Shark (used by securities industry professionals).
