DOW CORNING WRIGHT REDUCES WORK FORCE BY 53
ARLINGTON, Tenn., Jan. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- The jobs of 53 production

employees of Dow Corning Wright were terminated today as a result of the moratorium on the sale of silicone gel breast implants.
Each of the 53 positions was directly related to production of the implants. These employees had been on temporary leave with full pay and benefits since Jan. 6 when the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) called for a moratorium.
"We regret the need to make this permanent work force reduction," commented Dan. M. Hayes, president and chief executive officer of Dow Corning Wright. "But the long-term outlook for the viability of this product is not good."
Hayes said each employee was given a monetary and benefit severance package that exceeds federal government requirements for a work force reduction of this magnitude. "In addition, each individual will receive training and assistance in finding new jobs and counseling as needed.
In all, about 100 jobs at Dow Corning Wright and Dow Corning Corporation were affected by the FDA's action. Employees filling similar positions at Dow Corning's facility in Hemlock, Mich., have been reassigned to other positions at various locations in the Midland, Mich., area where Dow Corning is headquartered.
