DOW CORNING TO RELEASE ALL FDA-REQUIRED DOCUMENTS THE WEEK OF FEB. 10
MIDLAND, Mich., Jan. 29 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Corning reaffirmed today that it will release to the general public documents identified by the FDA as "new information." The FDA is already in possession of these documents, the company said.
"While our files have always been open to the FDA, they have asked us to release to the general public 90 documents regarding silicone breast implants," said Dan M. Hayes, president of Dow Corning Wright. "Of these 90 documents, 10 are scientific studies, many of which are already in the public domain. The balance of the request is for documents that don't relate to the scientific evidence supporting the safety of breast implants." Release of these documents to the public will occur the week of Feb. 10.
Hayes went on to say that the company had announced, on Jan. 23, 1992, it would release these documents "in about 10 days."
"We want to make clear that we are cooperating to meet the needs of the FDA, as we always have," Hayes said.
"In each case, we are doing everything possible to ensure that Dow Corning Wright provides an accurate context in which to understand the purpose and intent of each memo. We have also sought copies of studies in the world scientific literature that relate to these memos," Hayes said.
Members of the media who wish to receive a copy of these documents should register their request by faxing their mailing address to Barbara Carmichael at 517-496-4511, or faxing to 517-496-6487, no later than Feb. 7. Documents will be expressed to the media during the week of Feb. 10, with a specific date for delivery to be announced to the media no later than Feb. 7.
