DOW CORNING RECEIVES HIGHEST LABOR DEPARTMENT AWARD FOR PROGRAMS ENCOURAGING DIVERSE WORK FORCE

MIDLAND, Mich., Sept. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Labor Thursday will present Dow Corning with its Exemplary Voluntary Efforts (EVE) Award in Washington.
Dow Corning is one of nine companies nationwide to receive the EVE Award, which recognizes organizations for their innovative efforts to increase employment opportunities for minorities, women, individuals with disabilities, disabled veterans and Vietnam-era veterans.
"Being presented with the EVE Award is a tremendous honor that illustrates a commitment to all employees," said Burnett S. Kelly, Dow Corning U.S. Area president. "The variety of backgrounds of our people contributes to a worldwide team of diverse experiences and talents so important to our future success."
Kelly said the company plans to continue to build upon the work it has done in the EEO and affirmative action areas.
"While we've made progress, we know we're not where we want to be yet," he said.
The award honors Dow Corning for its high level of involvement in community and employee education, minority scholarship programs, community outreach activities and health promotion programs. The company also is being commended for recognizing the need for balance between work and family, valuing the differences among people, and for progress in affirmative action and EEO practices.
Other recipients of the EVE Award include: Consolidated Edison Company of New York, Inc.; Falcon Jet Corp.; GTE Telephone Operations; Kraft General Foods, Inc.; Nabisco Foods Group; Louisiana Industry Liaison Group; Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Co. and Temple University.
Midland-based Dow Corning, with 8,600 employees, is the world leader in the production of silicones. It is equally owned by The Dow Chemical Co. (NYSE: DOW) and Corning Inc. (NYSE: GLW).
