 DOW CORNING NAMES ACTIS CORPORATE MANAGER OF EXTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS
 MIDLAND, Mich., Sept. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Dow Corning Corporation announced the appointment of Ronald G. Actis to corporate manager of External Communications. In his new position he is responsible for planning and implementing communications with the general news media and communities where Dow Corning is located, legal communications, and the corporate contributions process.
 "Ron Actis brings a comprehensive base of experience to this critical position, having completed 30 years with General Motors in a variety of assignments, each with an increasing scope of management responsibilities," said Barbara S. Carmichael, vice president of Communications.
 Actis formerly served as group director of Public Affairs and Communications for the General Motors Automotive Components Group since 1988. Active in civic affairs, he was a member of the executive committee of the Detroit Central Business District Association and a member of the New Detroit Race Relations Committee and Greater Detroit Area Chamber of Commerce Business Expansion and Attraction Council.
 In 1982 he became Saginaw Division Public Affairs and Communications director. Actis is a former chairman of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, co-founder of Leadership Saginaw and the Business-Union- Government Group for economic development and former vice chairman of the Saginaw-Midland-Bay Counties Private Industry Council and the Saginaw Area Growth Alliance.
 Previous GM positions include administrator of Public Relations of the Fisher Body Division from 1978-82, supervisor of Public Relations for the Delco Remy Division and 12 years in various manufacturing management assignments at that division.
 A native of DePue, Ill., Actis is a 1962 industrial management graduate of the University of Illinois. He is an accredited member (APR) of the Public Relations Society of America and a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and the American Management Association.
 Dow Corning Corporation is jointly owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning Incorporated. Its principal business is silicone and polycrystalline silicon with operations located in the United States, Europe, Canada, Japan, South America, Australia, Taiwan and Korea.
