DOVER RESIDENTS FAVOR SALE OF ELECTRIC SYSTEM TO DELMARVA POWER BY 2 TO 1 MARGIN

WILMINGTON, Del., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- A survey of Dover residents shows 47 percent of the respondents favor a sale of the electric system to Delmarva Power & Light Company (NYSE: DEW), 21 percent oppose it, and 32 percent are neutral.
"The data tells us that a great number of Dover residents feel the sale of the electric system is in their best interest," said Richard H. Evans, vice president of corporate communications.
In late May, Delmarva Power offered to buy the city of Dover's electric system, citing several benefits for residents, city government, and Delmarva Power.
The survey showed that among several issues, the one most influential to Dover residents was Delmarva Power's investment in protecting the environment.
Also significant to Dover citizens, according to the poll, were Delmarva Power's intention to locate a new division headquarters in Dover and the city's ability to invest the profits from the sale to keep property taxes low.
"Delmarva Power's strength is satisfied customers," said Evans. "While the Dover system has been a source of both profit and pride for city residents for many years, the utility industry is changing dramatically. Delmarva Power is prepared to cope with this change while continuing to keep customers satisfied and prices low."
The poll was taken in early June. It included 300 residents of Dover.
