 DOUGLAS GRINDSTAFF NAMED GENESCO PRESIDENT
 NASHVILLE, Tenn., April 22 /PRNewswire/ -- GENESCO Inc.


(NYSE: GCO) today announced the appointment of E. Douglas Grindstaff as president and chief operating officer and his election to the Board of Directors.
 A vice president of Procter & Gamble, Grindstaff has for the past six months been president of the Procter & Gamble Cellulose Company in Memphis, Tenn.
 Previously, he was president of Procter & Gamble Canada where he was responsible for Procter & Gamble's billion dollar consumer goods business. While in Canada, Grindstaff managed the rapid expansion of Procter & Gamble's sales and profits and last year led the acquisition of Facell, Canada's second largest paper towel and tissue company.
 In 1991, he was named "Marketer of the Year" in Canada by the Toronto American Marketing Association.

 A native of Knoxville, Tenn., Grindstaff graduated from the University of Tennessee with a bachelor of science degree in electrical engineering.
