DOREL OPENS NEW U.S. COMPANY, EXPANDS TO MEET GROWING DEMAND
MONTREAL, Feb. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Dorel Industries Inc. has announced the creation of Infantino Inc., a new San Diego, Calif.-based company which will operate within the Juvenile Products Division. In a separate development, Dorel has established a new manufacturing facility in Cartersville, Ga. to answer the increasing demand for Cosco's line of metal cribs and youth beds.
The recently purchased assets of Silgo International, acquired for $600,000 have been integrated into Infantino Inc. Operations will be centered in the former Silgo facility. Dorel has retained most of Silgo's employees. Infantino will manufacture and distribute juvenile wall hangings, decorative accessories and crib mobiles. These products will be marketed throughout Canada, the U.S. and Europe to Dorel's vast client base as well as to new customers.
Dorel's wholly owned subsidiary, Cosco Inc., will open a new 100,000 square-foot metal furniture manufacturing plant in Cartersville, Ga., dedicated to the production of Cosco's popular Youth Options line of junior beds, bunk beds, bed rails as well as metal cribs and accessories. Scheduled to open in mid-February, the facility will enable Cosco to meet the growing demand of these products and end the dependence of outside contractors who have been unable to supply Cosco's growing volumes. This will give Cosco complete control over quality, production and distribution.
In addition, valuable space will be freed in the main Columbus, Ind. plant to provide additional production capacities required to meet the increasing demand of Cosco's other product lines. A number of employees and management from Cosco's Cartersville wood crib manufacturing plant have been moved to the new Youth Options facility.
Dorel's President and Chief Executive Officer, Leo Schwartz, anticipates the moves will result in greater market share and increased production efficiencies. "Cosco's Youth Options metal furniture line is winning wide approval from many major retailers, in particular, Wal-Mart, which has become a major customer. The overall demand for metal toddler beds, bunk beds, cradles, cribs and changing tables has far exceeded our most optimistic projections."
Dorel Industries is one of North America's leading full line manufacturers and distributors of children's furniture and accessories. As well, it ranks among the top producers of ready-to-assemble (RTA) and metal folding furniture.
In addition to the newly established Infantino Inc., Dorel operates facilities in Montreal and Cornwall, Ontario and owns Cosco Inc. of Columbus, Ind., the Charleswood Corporation of Wright City, Mo. as well as Dorel U.K. in Great Britain. The company is listed on the Montreal and Toronto Exchanges.
