DONNELLY CORPORATION NAMED 'RECYCLER OF THE YEAR'
DONNELLY CORPORATION NAMED 'RECYCLER OF THE YEAR' HOLLAND, Mich., Oct. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Donnelly Corporation
(AMEX: DON) has been named a "Recycler of the Year" by the Michigan Recycling Coalition. Awards were presented at the 10th Annual Recycling Conference held on Thursday, Oct. 15, in Lansing, Mich.
The award presented to Donnelly was for source reduction and recognizes the company's achievements in steadily reducing the amount of waste that is actually generated by production. This greatly reduces or eliminates the amount of material that must be disposed of or reprocessed. Donnelly has been particularly successful in using returnable packaging systems, eliminating the need for expendable packaging components. These efforts have eliminated the need for disposing of 850 tons of packaging materials each year. Susan Paauwe, environmental and safety manager for Donnelly, stated, "Donnelly has long been committed to making effective use of materials and recycling efforts. We believe the most effective way that we can protect our environment is to find ways to not produce waste to begin with. Our efforts in recent years to eliminate packaging needed for shipping have been very successful and we are pleased to be recognized by the Michigan Recycling Coalition for our work in this area. "In addition to eliminating sources of waste, Donnelly is also actively involved in routinely recycling materials that are used in the production process. This recycling is often done in-house and through service organizations outside of Donnelly." The Michigan Recycling Coalition presented seven "Recycler of the Year" awards to leading companies in Michigan. Those were: Donnelly Corporation (Source Reduction Program), Dow Corning Corporation (Recycling Education and Awareness Program), City of East Lansing (Special Merit Award for Education and Awareness), Southeastern Oakland County Resource Recovery Authority (Community Recycling Program), White Lake Recyclers (Rural Recycling Program), Amway Corporation (Business, Industry, or Institutional Recycling Program), and Ford Motor's EEE Building (Business, Industry, or Institutional Recycling Program). The 1992 Michigan Recycling Coalition Conference theme was "Recycling: From Novelty to Legitimacy." It focused on recycling and waste reduction as an integral component of commercial, industrial, and municipal operations. Over 30 experts in the fields of waste reduction and recycling operations, procurement, and education shared their expertise and guided participants toward the enhancement of waste- reduction programs. Donnelly Corporation is an international company dedicated to serving customers around the world with high-quality fabricated, molded and coated glass products for the automotive and electronics industries.
