DONALD R. KEOUGH ELECTED TO THE HOME DEPOT BOARD OF DIRECTORS

 ATLANTA, Jan. 12 /PRNewswire/ -- The Home Depot, Inc. (NYSE: HD), America's largest home improvement retailer, today announced that Donald R. Keough has been elected to the company's board of directors.
 Keough is president, chief operating officer and a director of The Coca-Cola Company (NYSE: KO). He is also chairman of the board of Coca- Cola Enterprises, Inc.
 "My board and I are thrilled and complimented that Don has agreed to join us," said Bernard Marcus, The Home Depot's chairman and chief executive officer. "He is a widely respected business leader in Atlanta and internationally and has played a significant role in enabling The Coca-Cola Company to achieve and sustain its industry leadership. In the decade ahead, as The Home Depot continues to grow toward becoming a fully national retailer and begins to open stores outside the United States, his talent and experience will be invaluable."
 Keough, who becomes The Home Depot's first outside board member from the Atlanta area, also serves on the boards of National Service Industries, Inc., H.J. Heinz Company and The Washington Post Co.
 He is immediate past chairman of the board of trustees of the University of Notre Dame and is a trustee of several other educational institutions. He also serves on the boards of a number of national charitable and civic organizations.
 Keough has received honorary doctorates from the University of Notre Dame and his alma mater, Creighton University.
 Atlanta-based Home Depot currently operates 207 home improvement stores in 18 states. The stores stock approximately 30,000 different kinds of building materials, home improvement products and lawn and garden supplies which are sold primarily to do-it-yourselfers but also to home improvement, construction and building maintenance professionals. The Home Depot's stock is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol "HD," and is included in the Standard & Poor's 500 Index.
