 DONALD MCLACHLAN, WISCONSIN CENTRAL CHAIRMAN DIES

 CHICAGO, Jan. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Donald J. McLachlan, 54, a founder and chairman of the board of directors at Wisconsin Central Transportation Corporation (NASDAQ: WCLX), Chicago, and a founder and partner at the law firm of McLachlan, Rissman & Doll, Chicago, died Sunday, Jan. 19, following a two-year struggle with cancer.
 Prior to forming his present law firm, McLachlan had been a partner at the law firm of Isham, Lincoln & Beale, Chicago. Since 1983, he has been involved in the formation of various start-up businesses and was also president and chief executive officer of The Oxford Group, Inc., Chicago, a locomotive leasing company.
 Thomas Power, WC's executive vice president, said, "The company will sorely miss his guidance and wisdom."
 Edward Burkhardt, Wisconsin Central's chairman and chief executive officer, said, "Don's foresight and leadership have helped this company achieve the success it has in only four short years. It's hard to imagine we could have done it without him."
 Power said that the vacancy on the board would likely be filled in the near future. Operating management at the company will remain unchanged.
 The company owns Wisconsin Central Ltd., the nation's largest regional railroad with more than 2,000 miles of track serving Illinois, Wisconsin, Michigan's upper peninsula, Minnesota and Ontario.
