DONALD G. KOCH, PRESIDENT, THIRD NATIONAL BANK OF SANDUSKY, ANNOUNCES MERGER WITH NATIONAL CITY BANK IN CLEVELAND

SANDUSKY, Ohio, Sept. 16 /PRNewswire/ -- National City Corporation (NYSE: NCC) today announced that effective Sept. 30, Third National Bank of Sandusky will operate under the "National City" name and will be consolidated with National City Bank in Cleveland.
For over 18 years, Third National Bank of Sandusky has been a member bank of National City Corporation. National City Bank (Cleveland) is the Corporation's largest bank with assets totalling $8 billion.
National City announced the move to a common identity in February 1992 to strengthen the name association between National City Corporation and its member units and to capitalize on related cost savings. Significant savings will be realized in marketing and purchasing as a result of the common name. For example, the Corporation estimates that it will save up to $1 million from standardization of forms as a result of its single identity and consolidating its purchase power. Member banks in Cleveland, Akron, Louisville and Indianapolis already operate under the "National City" name.
According to Donald G. Koch, president and CEO of Third National Bank of Sandusky, the Sandusky bank will maintain local management, including the authority to approve loans and price products and services as it has done since becoming a part of National City Corporation in 1975.
As a result of systems consolidation related to the merger, enhancements in technology and management information systems will occur, enabling the bank to increase its services and better serve its customers.
"Third National Bank of Sandusky will continue to operate as we have for the past 18 years with our current management team and directors," Koch said. "Our directors will play a critical role, just as they do today, in identifying community needs and ensuring that we are responsive. Our commitment to superior customer service and to contribute to the well-being and economic strength of the communities we serve is stronger than ever," he said.
"Third National Bank of Sandusky is a vital part of the National City organization that now spans over 600 banking offices in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana," said William I. Cornett, Jr., executive vice president of National City Bank (Cleveland). "In each community, the people who live and work there are the key to National City's success in serving its customers. The management team and employees of Third National Bank of Sandusky have been delivering quality personal service to our customers for many years. That same high level of service will continue, but will be enhanced with the addition of new products and more efficient delivery systems to provide greater convenience and greater financial options for our customers," Cornett stated.
