DONALD'S JOY AT NEW BISHOP ROLE.

A LIVERPOOL-BORN clergyman was consecrated as a bishop.

Donald Allister will be installed as the new Bishop of Peterborough on Saturday April 17 at Peterborough Cathedral.

The consecration ceremony took place yesterday at St Paul's Cathedral, in London.

Bishop Donald, 57, is the son of a Mersey docks manager and a nursing sister.

He grew up mainly in Birkenhead, where he was also a vicar from 1983-1989.

Well-wishers from the Diocese of Chester - where Bishop Donald was Archdeacon of Chester from 2002-2010 - attended his consecration, including Bishop Peter Forster of Chester and Bishop Keith Sinclair of Birkenhead.

Bishop Donald said: "I am overwhelmed by this new job but believe it is the Church's call and God's call to me.

"Wirral has been my home as long as I can remember."
