DON McLEAN Addicted To Black [...].

Byline: Paul Cole ; Jack Daniels

DON McLEAN Addicted To Black (Proper) DEPRESSED by the slow death of the CD, and not a fan of downloads, McLean says this is his final album. Good. Because for a songwriter of his stature, this is a sorry setlist that smacks of desperation. Opening with lumpen rock and roll, the title track is a throwaway and Run, Diana Run possibly the worst song he has ever written. About a fairytale princess pursued by the paparazzi, the chorus reads: "Run Diana, run. I think they're getting nearer. Run Diana, run. They're in the rear view mirror." Of the 11 songs, only Shadowland passes muster. Awful. JD
