DON'T TUNE OUT TELEVISION: BETTER SOUND AHEAD

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif., May 25 /PRNewswire/ -- Improving the quality of the sound coming from television sets is the next big competitive battleground for the worldwide consumer electronics industry.
"The good news for millions of television viewers around the world is that the audio technology now exists that can greatly improve sound reproduction," said John C. McLaren, chairman of BBE Sound Inc., Huntington Beach.
McLaren's company, BBE Sound, markets a patented audio technology which allows loudspeakers to reproduce the original live sound more fully and more faithfully.
More than 10 world-famous consumer electronics brands now are licensed to use BBE Sound's high-definition audio microchips. The first was Aiwa for its premium consumer home entertainment products. International Jensen is licensed to utilize BBE Sound's circuitry in its Acoustic Research, Advent, Jensen, NHT and Phase Linear audio lines. Goldstar is licensed to use BBE for its premium Fantasia audio products and Teac Corp. for its Teac and Tascam products. Earlier this year, Alpine Electronics car stereos and Brother Corp. karaokes joined the growing BBE Sound list of consumer electronics products now licensed.
"In addition, major television manufacturers soon will be incorporating BBE Sound because quality of sound is the newest arena for fierce competition," McLaren stated.
"Even on the smallest TV sets, BBE high-definition audio improves overall sound quality and speech intelligibility in particular. Some 85 percent of the sound on TV is the spoken word. The BBE system is an important benefit for older people whose hearing is not what it once was and for apartment dwellers who need to be concerned with too loud volume," explained McLaren.
"We also see great opportunity for the BBE system in places where voice intelligibility is very important, such as in airports, bus and train stations, hospitals, shopping centers and churches. Two other major potential applications for BBE's high-definition audio technology are telephones and computer games," added McLaren.
"The BBE system is providing a major technological and marketing advance for the consumer electronics industry by catching the imagination of consumers and rekindling the worldwide enthusiasm which created great surges of consumer demand in years past for high fidelity, stereo and CDs," concluded McLaren.
