DON'T FORGET THE BOSS!

CLEVELAND, Oct. 7 /PRNewswire/ -- On Oct. 16, employees around the country will tell their bosses exactly what they think of them! The idea for Boss's Day, observed Oct. 16 each year, was originated by Patricia Bays Haroski, a State Farm Insurance employee, as a means of showing appreciation to her boss and others. Bays Haroski registered the holiday with the United States Chamber of Commerce in 1958.
The Oct. 16 date was no accident. It was the birth date of Bays Haroski's father, whom she believed to be an exemplary boss who was well respected and loved by his employees.
According to Terry Kovach of American Greetings Corporation's seasonal product management group, an estimated one million Boss's Day cards are presented by employees each year. "Since the observance falls on a Saturday this year, a lot of employees will probably be giving their bosses cards and taking them out to lunch on Friday," she noted.
Kovach said American Greetings offers Boss's Day cards appropriate for male and female bosses as well as cards from individuals or groups. "Cards that poke fun at the boss's 'trials and tribulations' with employees are especially popular," she added. Typical is an American Greetings card which reads: "To a boss with a heart of gold ... and nerves of steel! Happy Boss's Day." A selection of traditional Boss's Day cards is also available. Boss's Day coffee mugs bear the messages: "Me Boss. You Not," "Is It Friday Yet?" and "I Love My Job!"
Headquartered in Cleveland, American Greetings is the world's largest publicly owned manufacturer of greeting cards and social expression products. Annual revenues exceed $1.7 billion. American Greetings products can be found in leading retail outlets worldwide.
