DOMINO'S PIZZA AND NATIONAL GUARD JOIN FORCES
TO DELIVER RELIEF TO RIOT-MARRED LOS ANGELES
'It Was A Blessing From Heaven ...'
LOS ANGELES, May 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Just one call from the mayor's office and Domino's Pizza was on its way to deliver support and more than 500 pizzas to victims of the riots and volunteers participating in L.A.'s clean-up effort.
Over the weekend, Los Angeles-area Domino's stores, with assistance from the National Guard, donated and delivered hundreds of pizzas to the First AME Church to aid in the relief effort. The pizzas went to residents most affected by the violence in Los Angeles, in addition to the individuals pioneering the clean-up effort.
Lou Collier, a representative for Councilman Mark Ridley-Thomas, whose Eighth District incurred severe damage in the L.A. riots, commented, "At a time in which the entire city was in a crisis state, it was most commendable for entities such as Domino's Pizza to come to provide support in the manner that they could, such as feeding 300 volunteers and displaced victims of the recent insurgence."
"It was a blessing from heaven and right in the nick of time," said Rev. Leonard Jackson, associate pastor of the First AME Church. "Most of the thousands of volunteers were too busy to take time out to get proper nourishment and Domino's was there for them when they were most needed."
As a result of Domino's involvement in the relief effort, the pizza company has extended its commitment to rebuilding the community by initiating a canned-food drive. For at least the next two weeks, the public can drop off canned food items at select Domino's locations or they can simply give the canned goods to a Domino's delivery person when a pizza is delivered to their home. Individuals can call their local Domino's for additional information or 310-640-3100 for alternate drop sites.
"The community has been extremely responsive and more than 2,000 cans have already been collected," said Andy Havener, corporate operations director for Domino's Pizza. "Since Saturday, in spite of losing three stores to fires during the riots, Domino's has been making a concerted effort to aid members of the Los Angeles community."
Domino's Pizza is the world's largest pizza delivery company, with more than 5,400 locations throughout the United States and in 32 international markets. There are nearly 400 Domino's Pizza outlets in Southern California, stretching from San Diego to Santa Barbara.
