DOES anyone remember the names of these nurses from around 1960, wonders Judith Williams, of Thornaby.

Byline: Judith Williams

In the Middlesbrough General Hospital nursing staff "photo call" - top picture - Judith's sister, Mary Wilson (nee Gale), is fourth from the right in the back row.

The picture of the hospital's pantomime players, above, shows Mary fifth from the right on the back row.

Judith writes:

I have only a vague idea of a couple of names, but I am not sure as I was only about 10 years old at the time.

Sadly, my sister died some years ago but perhaps some of the others might recognise themselves and others from the photographs.

Mary went on to Glasgow to study midwifery and after qualifying she went to Nairobi, Kenya with a friend called Ella.

When she returned home Mary became a district midwife in Thornaby, a job she loved and which she did for about 10 years before joining the maternity unit at the newly-opened North Tees Hospital, in Hardwick, where she stayed until she retired.
