DOE SELECTS FLUOR DANIEL SUBSIDIARY TO MANAGE
TEAPOT DOME OIL FIELD AND GOVERNMENT OIL SHALE RESERVES
WASHINGTON, July 9 /PRNewswire/ -- The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has selected a subsidiary of Fluor Daniel (FD) to be the new operator of the government-owned oil field and oil shale properties in Wyoming, Colorado and Utah. The properties include the Teapot Dome Naval Petroleum Reserve near Casper, Wyo.
DOE said today that it had picked FD Services, based in Tulsa, Okla., to take over the current management and operation of the properties beginning Oct. 1, 1992. FD Services will replace the current contractor, John Brown E&C of Houston.
The new contract would extend for five years and is estimated to be worth approximately $121 million. DOE hopes to complete the new contract arrangements in time to allow a two-month transition period prior to the Oct. 1 contract start date. DOE selected FD Services from six firms that submitted proposals.
Assuming successful completion of upcoming negotiations, FD Services would take over the management and operation of the Teapot Dome Naval Petroleum Reserve No. 3, a federally owned oil field located 35 miles north of Casper. The field currently produces just over 2,000 barrels of oil per day for commercial sale with receipts going to the Federal Treasury.
The company will also assume responsibility for managing the government's Naval Oil Shale Reserves in Garfield County, Colo., and Carbon and Unitah Counties, Utah. At present, DOE is not planning to develop the oil shale resources, however, natural gas is produced from the Colorado reserves both from government-owned wells and from cost-shared wells operated jointly with adjacent private property owners or lessees.
FD Services is the government management, operation and maintenance arm of Fluor Daniel , the world's largest engineering, construction and maintenance contractor.
