 DOE OFFICIAL RECEIVES PRESIDENTIAL AWARD FOR FEDERAL SERVICE
 PITTSBURGH, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Dr. Sun W. Chun, director of the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Pittsburgh Energy Technology Center (PETC) in South Park Township, Pa., was awarded the rank of meritorious executive in the Senior Executive Service during ceremonies held March 13, at DOE's headquarters in Washington, it was announced today.
 The award, signed by President Bush, is given to federal career employees in the Senior Executive Service for sustained superior accomplishment in the management of government programs and outstanding achievement in public service.
 The Senior Executive Service was established by law in 1978 to ensure that the federal executive management is of the highest quality.
 Chun has served as the director of PETC since 1979 and, before that, as deputy director. Before joining PETC in 1976 to serve as director of the process sciences division, he held management positions with the Gulf Research and Development Company.
 Chun earned B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees in chemical engineering from the Ohio State University (OSU). Highlights in his career include receiving the 1981 Benjamin G. Lamme Award for outstanding service from OSU; the 1983 Diamond Jubilee Award for Outstanding Service from the American Institute of Chemical Engineers; and the Leadership Award from the Pittsburgh Coal Conference in 1988.
 PETC conducts research and manages national programs aimed at improving the clean and economic uses of the nation's abundant resources of coal.
