DOE A DEER

ELKO, Nev., Dec. 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Deer hunting season is over in the Western states and mule deer are preparing for the long winter months ahead. To improve the deer's habitat, many gold mining companies, including American Barrick Resources Corporation, Independence Mining Co. Inc. and Newmont Gold Company, along with the Nevada Department of Wildlife and the U.S. Forest Service, have established several mule deer management programs, costing more than $800,000, along the Carlin Trend of northern Nevada. In addition to strengthening the mule deer herd, which was severely impacted by last year's harsh winter, the habitat programs will benefit other wildlife species, recreationists and hunters.
