DOD COMMENTS ON START DATE FOR TEXAS AND LOUISIANA CHAMPUS PROGRAM EXPANSION

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif., Feb. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Foundation Health Corporation (NYSE: FH) today announced that the Department of Defense (DoD) has notified the company that the scheduled May 1, 1993, start date for a CHAMPUS managed health care program in three base closure areas of Louisiana and Texas may be delayed. The DoD has not yet issued its formal statement of work outlining the details of the program.
The 1993 Defense Appropriations Act passed by Congress and signed into law by the president provided that a CHAMPUS managed care program must be established in these areas by May 1, 1993. The company had been notified by DoD in November that its New Orleans CHAMPUS managed care contract would be modified to provide continuity of care for about 100,00 beneficiaries affected by planned U.S. Air Force base closures in Alexandria, La., and Fort Worth and Austin, Texas.
The New Orleans contract has annual revenues of about $28 million and covers 22,000 eligible beneficiaries through February 1996.
Foundation is a leading managed health care company serving industry and government. Through its health maintenance organization, specialized managed care services and government contracting subsidiaries, the company administers a variety of health benefits for more than 3 million eligible individuals.
