DOCTORS HOSPITAL OF NELSONVILLE JOINS BLUE CROSS & BLUE SHIELD OF OHIO'S SUPER BLUE HOSPITAL NETWORK

NELSONVILLE, Ohio, April 1 /PRNewswire/ -- Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville has joined Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio's (BCBSO) Super Blue preferred provider hospital network, effective today.
"For several reasons, we are delighted with this addition to the hospital panel as an important link in the growing Super Blue network," said Kent W. Clapp, BCBSO president and chief operating officer.
"One of the most important is that as a panel member, Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville is making the cost efficiency and accessibility inherent in the Super Blue product available to a growing number of Ohioans.
"Also, it is affiliated with Doctors Hospital's two facilities in Columbus and, with a staff of M.D.'s and osteopathic doctors, is a benefit for those who prefer the practice of osteopathic medicine."
BCBSO's contract with Doctors of Nelsonville is for five years, Clapp said. More than 100 hospitals statewide are part of Cleveland- based BCBSO's Super Blue panel.
Within the past year, BCBSO has contracted with the State of Ohio and four of the state's five retirement systems to make cost-efficient managed-care coverage available to tens of thousands of state employees and retirees.
"We're pleased with this arrangement because Super Blue customers will make up a stable patient base during the term of the contract," said Mark R. Seckinger, administrator of Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville.
"Also, Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Ohio has gained a strong, positive reputation for its ability to hold down healthcare inflation through managed-care products, such as Super Blue, and other cost- containing innovations."
Seckinger added, "A critical part of our overall mission is to make quality affordable healthcare accessible to as many people as possible."
Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville has 28 medical-surgical and seven cardiac-care unit beds, along with 45 beds in its Pine Hills Continuing Care Center.
When it opened in 1988, the Pine Hills Continuing Care Center became the first in-house extended- and convalescent-care facility of its type in southeastern Ohio.
Among its many services, Doctors of Nelsonville offers total emergency care, high-technology surgical and diagnostic services, rehabilitation services, a mammography unit, and chemotherapy clinic.
Established in 1950 by the sisters of St. Francis of Stella Niagara, N.Y., as Mount St. Mary Hospital, the facility was renamed Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville in 1980. It is operated by a governing board made up of community leaders and executives of Doctors Hospital in Columbus.
Doctors Hospital of Nelsonville is accredited by the American Osteopathic Association, is a member of the Ohio and American hospital associations, and of the Association of Ohio Philanthropic Homes and Housing for the Aging.
