DNAP NAMES ROBERT SERENBETZ, CURRENT PRESIDENT AND COO, AS CEO
CINNAMINSON, N.J., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- DNA Plant Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: DNAP) today announced that consistent with its management succession plan, Robert Serenbetz will add to his responsibilities the position of chief executive officer. As president and chief operating officer, Serenbetz currently manages the company's day-to-day operation. The current chief executive officer, Richard Laster, will remain chairman of DNAP's board.
"Since Robert Serenbetz joined DNAP, he has added significantly to the development and growth of the company," said Richard Laster. "I intend to work very closely with Bob in furthering our business goals and making DNAP the industry leader."
Before joining DNAP in November, 1991, Serenbetz, 48, had been group president of Warner-Lambert's American Chicle Division, a business with $800 million in sales. Before 1989, Serenbetz served as president of Warner-Lambert operations in Latin America/Asia/Australia and Canada. He was graduated from Dartmouth College with a degree in history, and holds an MBA from Harvard.
Richard Laster has been chairman of the board of DNAP since November 1988 and the president and chief executive officer since October 1982. From 1974 to 1982, Laster was executive vice president and a director of General Foods Corporation, a manufacturer of packaged foods. He is a director of Bowater, Inc.
"Product sales are growing in our three core businesses and other products are in our development pipeline. We look forward to a rapid expansion of commercial activity and at the same time remain committed to adding further value to plant-based products with the tools of biotechnology," said Serenbetz.
DNAP has introduced products into the market in three areas: Its VegiSnax carrots and celery, superior-tasting varieties specially bred for snacking, are being sold regionally and in over 600 McDonald's. They are also served in children's meals on United Airlines flights. A heat-stable, low saturated fat canola oil is being supplied to a Fortune 50 food processor. The company is also marketing diagnostic products for the detection of pesticide residues, environmental contaminants and plant fungal diseases.
DNAP is a leading agricultural biotechnology company, applying a spectrum of technologies to develop and commercialize plant-based products, agricultural and environmental diagnostics, and ice modification products and processes for the industrial and consumer markets. The company has three operating joint ventures -- FreshWorld, InterMountain Canola Company and Agri-Diagnostics Associates.
