DNAP AND UNION CARBIDE PARTNERSHIP COMMENCES TEST
MARKETING OF ITS QUANTIX ENVIRONMENTAL WORKSTATION
CINNAMINSON, N.J., June 16 /PRNewswire/ -- DNA Plant Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: DNAP) announced today that its partnership with Union Carbide, Agri-Diagnostics Associates, has commenced test marketing of its Quantix(TM) Environmental Workstation. The workstation has been designed to detect gasoline components (total BTEX contamination) in soil and groundwater on site.
Quantix(TM) is unique in that it is able to provide accurate, real-time data on up to five samples within 20-30 minutes. Most testing today must be conducted off site, where greater expenses and delays can be incurred. Results are displayed digitally on the user- friendly unit's quantimeter, and can be stored or downloaded to a PC. Gasoline components can be detected in concentrations as low as 5 ppm. in soil and 250 ppb. in water.
"The Quantix system should reduce the costs involved with site investigations, and enable remediation work to proceed more quickly," said Steven Ludmerer, chairman and CEO of DNAP Diagnostics, a general partner of Agri-Diagnostics Associates. "Given the widespread contamination of soil and groundwater throughout the United States, the commercial potential of a portable analysis system which will enable environmental professionals to rapidly measure levels of BTEX contamination without leaving the site is significant."
Full-scale marketing of the Quantix Workstation is expected to begin by the end of 1992. Agri-Diagnostics Associates is also developing additional Quantix products for the detection of chlorinated solvents and diesel/fuel oil components.
Agri-Diagnostics Associates applies to agricultural, environmental and food markets the same immunoassay-based technology which is being used successfully in medical diagnostics. Last year, Agri-Diagnostics launched products which detect pesticide residues in soil and groundwater, and in 1987 introduced the first immunoassay kits for the detection of fungal diseases in turf grass. These diagnostic kits are being marketed to golf courses, nurseries, orchards and vegetable farms.
DNAP is a leading agricultural biotechnology company, applying a spectrum of technologies to develop and commercialize plant-based products, agricultural and environmental diagnostics, and ice modification products and processes for industrial and consumer markets. The company has three operating joint ventures -- FreshWorld, InterMountain Canola Company and Agri-Diagnostics Associates.
