DNA PLANT TECHNOLOGY AGREES TO SELL PLANT DIAGNOSTICS PRODUCT LINES TO NEOGEN

CINNAMINSON, N.J., Jan. 28 /PRNewswire/ -- DNA Plant Technology Corporation (NASDAQ: DNAP) announced today that its diagnostics unit, Agri-Diagnostics Associates (ADA), has signed a letter of intent to sell its Reveal(R) and Alert(R) plant disease detection product lines to Neogen Corporation (NASDAQ: NEOG) of Lansing, Mich. The products are used in the detection of plant diseases that affect golf courses, and greenhouse and nursery crops.
"The sale of the Reveal and Alert products is in line with our strategy, initiated last November, to exit certain businesses that are no longer part of our strategic focus," said Robert Serenbetz, president and chief executive officer of DNA Plant Technology.
"We are now concentrating ADA's resources in the field of environmental diagnostics, particularly the detection of petroleum and pesticide contaminants in groundwater, potable water and soil," added Mr. Serenbetz. "Our major new product in this area, the Quantix(TM) Environmental Workstation, continues to show increasing customer acceptance and sales growth, and we are looking forward to broadening the line for new applications."
Final completion of the transaction is subject to the execution of a definitive agreement.
DNAP is a leading agricultural biotechnology company, applying a spectrum of technologies to develop and commercialize plant-based products and environmental diagnostic products for consumer and industrial markets. The company has two major operating joint ventures -- FreshWorld in premium fruits and vegetables, and InterMountain Canola Company in special varieties of edible canola oil.
