DNA 7.

In Fall 2016 a number of activities supporting nursing in our area occurred. District 7 reached out to the new nursing students at our local community college and presented a program on the value of membership in the Colorado Nurses Association (CNA). The benefits available to members as students and significance of the ANA nursing standards and CNA's role in advocating for nursing were highlights. The local college Southwest Colorado Community College has established a student nurses association branch in our area! Our district is supporting their efforts and hope to enjoy future events together. In October, a community nursing event was held in Durango for new nurses, nursing students and practicing nurses. The topic was Diversity in Nursing. Several nursing leaders from our area and the state participated. Among those attending, Kathleen McInnis, Amanda Quintana, Marcia Gilbert and Adam Deisi. They shared many insights regarding issues concerning nursing diversity, development of student nursing associations and issues particular to rural nursing and further education. In the spring, we plan to support local efforts organizing the annual Nightingale event as well as joining with other local groups to provide an exciting event honoring National Nurses Week.
