DNA 20 (West Metro Area).
In November, Kathy Crisler and Kathy Wood presented to 29 Front Range Community College nursing students and faculty on "The Nursing Profession and Your Professional Organization." With the help of answers to questions posed by the presenters to the 10 DNA 20 members present, students were able to learn how ANA is relevant for RNs to belong to their professional organization. Three tickets for the CNA/DNA 16 Legislative Dinner to be held in February were purchased by DNA 20 and awarded as door prizes for the students in attendance. Thank you to Kaiser Permanente for donating lanyards and other small items for the students. Also in November in our ongoing support of nursing students, Sophia Morlan, a student in the CHOICE Program at Regis University, was awarded the $1500 2017 DNA 20 Scholarship administered through Colorado Nurses Foundation.
At December's Holiday Potluck, new socks and underwear, toiletries and non-perishable foods were collected for The Action Center. Our January meeting had as its speakers Valerie Smith, Community Outreach Manager, and David Eaton, Community Outreach Coordinator, from Arc. They talked about how RNs can play a role in the organization which promotes and protects the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Congratulations to Annette Cannon who was selected as an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) Peer Evaluator for the next two years. Thank you to Kathy Wood and Norma Tubman who met with Linda Stroup, Treasurer of DNA 20 and CNA, and reviewed DNA 20 Financial Records for the past seven years in preparation of DNA 20 monies being transferred to CNA for management. No deficiencies were found. Kudos to Olivia Martinez, Women's Health Nurse Practitioner, Jefferson County Public Health, who has volunteered for the third time to mentor a minority student through the Colorado Center for Nursing Excellence Program focusing on increasing nursing diversity in the workplace.
