DNA 16.

We started off the year with a potluck get-gather at Mary Kerschner's catching up on summer activities, professional activities, and upcoming year plans. We welcomed our new Treasurer Christine McDermott, Legislative Events Coordinator CJ Cullinan, and Board At-Large Denise Burroughs. CNA Membership Assembly in September was discussed as well and we hoped for a many members to attend.

At our first Fall meeting, Co-Chairs Laurie Freeman and Lisa Neison of The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention provided an educational presentation. They were personally l involved with suicides and now advocate to lessen the stigma of suicide. They talked about how to prevent suicides and AFSP's work to provide mental health resources, research and crisis assistance. A key to prevention is to listen, hear the clues, "We don't say the person committed a heart attack or committed diabetes so what do we say they committed suicide?" They experienced a suicide death or death by suicide. The organization provides a 24/7Suicide Crisis line (800-273-8255 (TALK). For additional information, go to Colorado@AFSP. DNA 16 teamed up as the "Sweet Sixteen's" to join the Colorado AFSP at their Out of Darkness Walk on October 3.
