DM programs control cost of care.

An Accordant Health Services study indicates that disease management (DM) programs do help control cost of care and improve clinical outcomes. Accordant Health supplies DM solutions for more than a dozen chronic conditions such as ALS, myasthenia gravis, lupus and hemophilia. In a recent study, Accordant Health's disease management program significantly reduced both shortand long-term total medical cost trends. The study compared the per-member per-month trend impact of Accordant's programs at three of its clients to three matched reference health plans that did not employ DM programs. Study results indicated that non-disease-managed groups experienced an additional 24 percent cost-trend increase, but the Accordant-managed groups did not.
