DITA PLAYS LUCKY NUMBERS.

Byline: RICHARD LEWIS

CONSTANTINA DITA will find herself part of an amazing number crunch when she defends her Olympic marathon crown a fortnight today.

Romanian star Dita will be 42 years and 195 days old - and the distance of the race is 42.195 kilometres! Four years ago, she won the title in 2hrs 26mins 44secs in Beijing, a run which gives Britain's Paula Radcliffe hope because she, like Dita then, is 38.

Now a USA citizen, Dita will still compete for Romania at the Games and the Colorado-based road-runner said: "There have been a few days when I feel 42, but last week I did my final long run, a 25km workout.

"I was surprised that I was running faster up there at 8,400ft than I have done in some of my workouts at much lower altitude. I am hoping to run well."
