DISPOSAL SCIENCES, PREMIUM PLASTICS ENTER INTO A DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT

CANNON FALLS, Minn., Sept. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- MediVators, Inc. (NASDAQ: MVAT) Disposal Sciences Inc. (DSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of MediVators, Inc. today announced it has entered into an exclusive distribution agreement with Premium Plastics, Inc. of Chicago. This agreement gives Premium the exclusive U.S. marketing rights to their new DSI System 2000 Medical Disposal System.
According to Donald L. Sturtevant, president and CEO of MediVators, Inc., "Premium will handle the system in the United States, Mexico and the Caribbean, through their established company sales force and extensive healthcare distribution network. Premium will market the DSI unit along with their broad line of medical plastic disposals, procedure kits and trays and infection control products including sharps collection devices. In addition, Premium will pay DSI a royalty on the collection devices and certain other plastic products which are sold to facilities which purchase the System 2000."
DSI will market the System 2000 in the rest of the global market along with Premium's line of disposable sharps collection devices under a separate exclusive distribution agreement.
The System 2000 agreement is subject to multiple conditions placed upon DSI that must be met by Dec. 1, 1993. Initial term of each agreement is for five years with options to renew. However, under certain conditions both agreements may be terminated prior to their normal expiration date.
"We see this as a terrific opportunity for both companies to increase market share worldwide, because the System 2000 will process most of the disposables in the Premium Plastics product line," said Curt Luebke, chairman of the board, MediVators, Inc.
Raymond J. Spinner, president of Premium Plastics, Inc. stated, "As a leader and major producer of plastic medical disposables, Premium Plastics is keenly aware of the issue of medical waste disposal. We will be introducing the DSI System 2000 on Sept. 13, 1993 at the HIDA (Healthcare Industry Distributors Association) Trade Show. This is the largest tradeshow for U.S. healthcare distributors in the country. This very timely introduction as the System 2000 potentially represents an efficient, cost effective solution to a large portion of the disposal challenge facing hospitals and other healthcare institutions today."
Premium Plastics, Inc. is part of privately held Spinner Medical Products Company, Inc. The company has been producing plastic disposable products for nearly 50 years. Spinner Medical's other concerns include Sterling Disposable, a packager of Premium Gent-L-Kare lines of disposable stock/custom procedure kits and trays, General Clinical Plastics Corporation, a La Mirada, Calif., medical products injection molding plant, and Chicago Sterilization Services, a facility that handles both proprietary and contract medical product sterilization services.
MediVators designs, manufactures and markets endoscopic disinfection equipment and supplies. MedFab, a division of MediVators, Inc., provides precision plastics machining and fabrication services to a variety of customers. Disposal Sciences is a wholly owned subsidiary that manufactures and markets a sharps disposal system. MediFlex is an 80 percent owned subsidiary that is developing applications of articulation technology licensed from Stanford University.
